*******************1. PRESIDENT'S NOTES ************************
[by Robert Lendvai]

The past month has been the busiest time in the LNITT that I've known. This is due in large part to the people who stepped forward to help run the LNITT. The following officers have been appointed:

Karen Chang (kchang@wellesley.edu, Wellesley College) - Director, Public Relations Jason Deeken (deeken@dartmouth.edu, Dartmouth College - Director, Nothern Division Yubei Teng (yteng@babson.edu, Babson College) - Director, Recruitment Chen Chung (cchung@bu.edu, Boston University) - Webmaster

Please drop these people a note of thanks for their hard work and effort.

Since the mailing of the last Newsletter, the LNITT has welcomed three new member schools:

Babson College (Northern Division) Bowdoin College (Northern Division) Johns Hopkins University (Southern Division)

As the league grows, there are several key goals to achieve.

1. Maintaining the highest level of competition, while maintaining manageable meet schedules. The division directors are taking care of this one. 2. Sponsorship dollars to ensure future health and growth. The effort to get funding is being spearheaded by Karen Chang. 3. Create public awareness of LNITT, get the word out to the table tennis community. Our Webmaster, Chen Chung, is responsible for this effort through our web site. Karen Chang shares in this responsibility through non-website channels.

As you read through the rest of the letter, you will see that we are moving full speed ahead on all fronts. If you're interested in helping out, drop me a line.

**********************2. DIVISION NOTES **************************
Southern Division [by Robert Lendvai]:

The Southern Division spent most of October debating the solution to a problem with an upside: too many teams in the division. The Southern Division traditionally has meets which all schools attend. While the option of having more smaller meets was discussed, for now, the large meet format was favored. As a compromise, all schools will be allowed to bring only one team to the meet. The meet will be on Nov. 8th, hosted by Hofstra University and the tireless Hofstra University TTC. A great big thanks goes out to them.

Northern Division [by Division Director Jason Deeken]:

The Northern Division's season started off last Saturday at Boston University.

Babson College, one of our new members, came out on top, defeating Dartmouth A and Boston University A with clinch doubles wins.

Other match scores:

BU A over Wellesley 3-2 Dartmouth A over Wellesley 3-2 BU B over Dartmouth B 3-2 BU A vs. Dartmouth stands at 1-1, to be continued.

Good luck to Bowdoin, BU, MIT, and Harvard this weekend!

************************3. SPONSORSHIP MONEY***************************
[by Publicity Director Karen Chang]

LNITT is in the process of requesting financial and equipment sponsorships from companies specializing in table tennis equipment (e.g., Paddle Palace, Sunmark, Escalade Sports). E-mails have been sent out to several companies, giving them a brief historical overview and current status of the league. We are also hoping to work more closely with the USATT to make the league's existence known within the greater U.S. table tennis community. More info to come...

*************************4. RECRUITMENT*******************************
[by Robert Lendvai]

Recruitment Director Yubei Teng has been hard at work contacting past ACUI participants. Even though the rate of response from our ACUI list has been somewhat disappointing, Yubei has already recruited Suffolk University. Suffok is in the process of joining and Yubei is in talks with other schools as well, including Emerson College. Next, Yubei will try to help Richard Lee in recruiting schools around Johns Hopkins University, in the hopes of starting a new division. He's also going to do some recruiting on rec.sport.table-tennis.

***************************5. WEB SITE********************************
[by Robert Lendvai]

Chen Chung took over the LNITT web site responsibilities only a few days ago. Already, he has added frames to the site and has established an agressive plan for future upgrades, including new graphics, better navigation, design, results & schedules posting and more!

**************************6. Personal note...******************************
[by Robert Lendvai]

Last weekend, a friend of mine, the captain of the Dartmouth College CollegeBowl team was driving himself and his team to Boston for a day of competition. Swerving to avoid an obstacle in his lane, the '91 Ford Taurus' brakes locked up (it was pouring rain) and the car started spinning uncontrollably. Slamming into the right side guard rail several times, the car came to a stop in the median gutter. Of the six people in the car, only one was seriously injured -- the only person not wearing a seat belt. There's going to be a lot of driving to and from table tennis tournaments this year as there is every year. Drive carefully. Make sure that everyone in your car is wearing a seat belt. Please.
