You Too Can Qualify for the Olympics

This winter, hundreds of college students will be playing their hearts out, trying to qualify for the NCTTA Championships. Some might also be trying to make it to the World University Games, or the ITTF World Championships.

But there's another way to make it to the Championships without hitting a single ball: Volunteer to serve as an umpire.

NCTTA and USATT are looking for a fresh infusion of new umpires. Some traits of good umpires:

* Love table tennis
* Have high ethical standards
* Be intelligent
* Be willing to study the rules

Umpiring is a great way to stay involved with table tennis long after college. Umpires are an essential part of any competition. Good umpires have the opportunity to go to major tournaments such as the NCTTA Championships, World University Games, World Championships, and even the Olympics.

Interested? Fill out this form here, by January 31. Guidance and training will be provided, and good candidates will be invited to the NCTTA Championships as their first major event. Send any questions to Kagin Lee at kagin.lee@nctta.org.

Academic Eligibility Form--Spring and Post Season

NCTTA Spring tournaments are kicking off with post season looming (Regionals and Nationals).

The common question is "What do I need to do to be academically eligible to play in NCTTA"

Seek no more, check this out!

Make sure however that schools list EVERYONE and ANYONE b/c this NCTTA Spring and Postseason Eligibility form counts for Spring Division play and Regionals and Nationals should you be invited! Of course needs to be listed on the roster in NCTTA.app too.

MOST OFTEN MISTAKE: Joe Smith played in his NCTTA Division tournament in the Fall but had to miss the Spring tournament but wants to play in the Post Season (Regionals and Nationals). Joe must be listed on the Spring Eligibility form to play in Regionals and or Nationals to be eligible.

In this example, the correct approach is:
Joe Smith is listed on the roster and on the eligibility form but does not show up in Spring division tournament and is still eligible to compete.

DON'T MISS OUT--NCTTA Spring 2025 Season

Announcement to any school who missed the Fall 2024 registration for the current 2024-2025 season – NCTTA is offering a Limited Membership option – schools can put in a Coed team (A team and B team if you have more players) for $75 and play in a division tournament in the Spring semester.

A women’s team can also be registered for a small fee.

Limited Membership schools CANNOT qualify as a team for the NCTTA postseason (regional and national competitions). However, there are Men’s and Women’s Singles competition in every division tournament and a Limited Membership school’s singles players CAN qualify for the postseason competitions.

If you are considering joining NCTTA as a full member in the future, we recommend that you take advantage of this Limited Membership Promotion to get a preview of how playing College Table Tennis is!

Help support the USA Collegiate TT team at the World University games!

College Table Tennis' World Cup and Super Bowl rolled into one happens every 2 years! This year in the summer of 2025 the 32nd games hosted by the highly industrialized and historic Rhine-Ruhr of Western Germany! NCTTA has been organizing the team including trials since 2006, but this year like every year supporting our student-athletes is always at the forefront of concern.

For NCTTA, it is important that student-athletes, some of whom may never reach world stages, have the opportunity to have that Olympic like experience. We need YOUR HELP, the Table Tennis and outside of the sport population to help our fellow student-athletes make this dream a reality!

Interested in sponsoring the next Lily Zhang, Amy Wang's of the world (b/c yes they all participated in the past USA Collegiate team at the World University games), look no further!

The Friendly NCTTA/AYTTO Matchup We Always Needed!

Although NCTTA’s mission is to promote table tennis in the collegiate demographic, the organization recognizes that in order to do this, there must be a “pipeline” from earlier schooling to university education. So when an inter-organizational opportunity such as a feature matchup between a university (Harvard of NCTTA) and a high school (Lexington of AYTTO) arises, we are all for the great friendly competition and networking that comes from this!

AYTTO New England Coordinator Jasper Wong remarked that this excellent chance to see some great matches might have stemmed from interactions at the Asian American Day Festival (Click Here: https://newengland.aytto.org/aytto-pongspace-at-asian-american-day-festi... to see event writeup) in Boston Common on September 7th.

“I think the idea started to form when Andrea Tang (1st year Wellesley College) and Kelly Yenn (1st year Harvard U) dropped by the AYTTO/NCTTA/PongSpace booth at Asian American Day Festival held on Boston Common back in early September,” Wong stated. “We also had some AYTTO students at the booth.”

Wong further mentioned what was discussed amongst the organizations during that event pertaining to potential college students and college application advice:

“One topic of conversation was related to college application guidance for high school students who are in to ping pong (AYTTO) and would like to continue their TT career/hobby when they go to college. In fact, Andrea Tang from Wellesley College is working on an article with a similar topic in mind (she started it when she was in her senior year in high school as an AYTTO blogger). We see a lot of potential synergy between the two entities (AYTTO and NCTTA) and there’s an obvious progression path for AYTTO students to move on becoming NCTTA students when they enter colleges.”

After the seeds were planted, Wong said it was only fitting to have Harvard University and Lexington High School participate in a friendly match, representing NCTTA and AYTTO respectively to further these educational and table tennis bonds.

Wong noted that after chatting with NCTTA President Willy Leparulo, that both organizations could benefit in promoting their organizations to other schools through this friendly competition.

The matchup is taking place during PongSpace’s George Braithwaite Major League Table Tennis championship on Saturday November 9, 2024 at SPIN Boston (Click Here: https://newengland.aytto.org/1st-ever-nctta-vs-aytto-matchup/ for event details).

Go check it out if you’re in the area!
