September 2007

Welcome back students and coaches and all college table tennis aficionados!
The 2007-2008 NCTTA intercollegiate table tennis season is upon us. College table tennis in the United States, Canada and even Puerto Rico is on the move with more active schools creating table tennis teams to join the NCTTA and compete on an intercollegiate level! We're very excited to add a new permanent Division this season, the Minnesota division. This division of course includes schools from Minnesota, but also from Iowa, it's neighbor to the south. We are also in the process of adding a new Transitional Division in the Idaho and Montana area and look forward to seeing them compete in NCTTA for the first time. There's lots of exciting things going on in college table tennis, please read on to find out about our League Sponsors, Pre-Season Rankings, the 2008 Championships and more in the rest of this newsletter.

NCTTA Sponsors
Please support our sponsors, they make college table tennis possible!

Table Tennis PioneersKillerspin
NCTTA has entered into an exclusive League Sponsorship agreement with Table Tennis Pioneers/Killerspin for the 2007-2008 competition season. We're pleased to be working with Table Tennis Pioneers again this season as they have been a consistent supporter of NCTTA since 2003. We're also delighted to see Killerspin jump in as a partner to provide equipment for the NCTTA League. All NCTTA divisions will be playing with Killerspin 3-star balls and Killerspin barriers this season.

Please remember to take advantage of the generous DISCOUNTS (up to 20%) on tables, racquets, rubber, balls and just about any other table tennis equipment your club might need.

Newgy NCTTA would also like to recognize NEWGY Industries as a valued Championship Sponsor. Newgy will once again be present at our 2008 College Table Tennis Championships providing barriers for the tournament, championship t-shirts for each participant and awarding a Newgy robot to both the Men's/Coed and Women's Championship Teams.

Florida Division Gets Scholarships!
To support college table tennis in the state of Florida, the Sunrise Table Tennis Club (STTC), has put together a great program called the Myrtle Wilkins Collegiate Table Tennis Scholarship.

Here's how it works: Every year, STTC holds 3 table tennis tournaments in Clearwater Florida as part of the as part of the Florida Sunburst Table Tennis Tour. College Club Players can enter these tournaments for 50% off, just $18 per student. STTC will pool all the $18 entry fees over the course of the tour and award it to the College Club whose players have earned the most Sunburst Tour Points.

Killerspin Holiday Open
Celebrate the New Year in Chicago!
Enter the College Team Event at the 2007 Killerspin Holiday Open, December 28-30. The tournament is part of Mayor Daley's Holiday sports festival featuring more than 25 different sports and activities and an estimated attendance of over 85,000 people. Killerspin also has a great lineup of top international players for their TV matches taped for ESPN. Play a little table tennis, watch a little table tennis; what better way to ring in the New Year?

Umpires and volunteers are needed for this event. A range of different volunteer benefits are available including free meals, discounted tournament entry fees and hotel accommodation. Contact David Del Vecchio if you're interested.

ACUI Regional Schedule
College regional singles tournaments for Spring 2008
We here at NCTTA believe in an entire team approach to college table tennis. ACUI is a non-profit educational organization that conducts both regional and national table tennis tournaments involving college institutions across America. NCTTA is committed to promoting these and all college table tennis events. ACUI competition is an excellent opportunity for schools not connected with an NCTTA Division to get a taste of college table tennis. And for everyone else, well, it's another great competition opportunity and can help to establish a good relationship with your school's administration. So get involved, volunteer, and PLAY! USATT Team League
Looking for more ways to get your team some match experience?
Sign your team up for the USATT Team League. The format is a little bit different than NCTTA's, but it's still TEAM table tennis and is a great way to enhance your college table tennis Experience. College teams can play in the 16-week league starting in January 2008. Email Penn State alum Tom Nguyen if you're interested.

If League play doesn't suit you, be on the lookout out other tournaments in your area that you can participate in. NCTTA encourages all college table tennis clubs to venture beyond their campus, become active in your local table tennis community, get noticed for your play, and increase awareness for your club. Check out the various USATT sanctioned tournaments and find one in your area.

2007 World Junior Championships
December 8-15 @ Stanford University
The ITTF's 2007 World Junior Table Tennis Championships are coming to the San Francisco Bay Area, December 8-15th. It's a rare chance to watch a major international competition on American soil and see how the US Junior Team stacks up to the rest of the world (hmm, probably better get there early if you want to see that).

NCTTA will set up a booth at the event to promote college table tennis. Let us know if you you'll be attending and would like to help work the booth. And if any NCTTA member schools have brochures and program material that you'd like us to distribute at our booth, mail them by November 20, 2007 to:
